Change in rainfall pattern, flooding, rise in sea level and increase temperature threatens Lagos 15 million residents who heavily depend on automobiles with thick dark smoke for transportation. These are just a few of the great topic marks, that the young Nigerian author Tunde Aboderin has pointed to all us last October. Air pollution from diesel-fired electricity generators due to irregular power supply, industrial pollution and coal mining lead to increased carbon emissions.

“This film takes us to the city of Lagos which has 16 million inhabitants and is one of the large cities due to be flooded in the all-too-near future. The film is technically well-executed and keeps a professional documentary standard. The film shows us among other things parts of Lagos being flooded. If an equally big city in USA or Europe were to be flooded, we would of course have seen the pictures on CNN or BBC. But for Lagos it will not be the case, and we are thankful for getting this important information.”
n 2006 Tunde submitted the film script of ‘Faceless’ to the Nordic Youth Film Festival NUFF (Global) and won an award to shoot the film, according to the Community Conservation and Development Initiatives (CCDI), which has been gathering information and identifying key actors involved in climate change activities in Nigeria, as part of its program on climate change. “This is a festival that empowers youth in developing their skills in the media sector. The workshop is very fruitful cause different people from different countries and cultural background have to work together to archive the same objective. It is fantastic. The technical assistance was very encouraging because you get to use equipment you’ve never worked with. The kind of interaction developed by participants of the festival as a result of a well structured meetings and introductions further strengthens the good outcome of the workshop and seminar.” - continues Tunde Aboderin.
While the film does not have the scope or depth of Al Gore’s ‘Inconvenient Truth’, it is nevertheless a film which highlights an African perspective on climate change. Please check it!
