Illinois’ inventor Steve Le Roy reported to be working on a device which purpose is to generate electricity from lightning. Device infact harvest energy from the electrical discharge produced from lightning. As mentioned in this month’s Business Week’s Green Tech forum, Le Roy took his cues from a coiled transformer created by Nikola Tesla at the turn of the century. It is good too see actions like IKEA’s one, which shows social and environmental responsibility, with their plans to free recycle any CFL bulbs that walks through its door. CFLs and much better than incandescent light bulbs if we mean energy efficiency, but there is one issue with them. It can’t be recycled with glass bottles, thanks to its mercury content. They plan to take old CFLs off of your hands and recycle them for free. All that mercury can either get wasted in landfills, or it could get reused by bulb companies. Unfortunately, there’s no retail focus on recycling the bulbs. Even Wal-Mart, which has a serious love affair with the bulbs, currently has no plans to recycle CFLs.
